Novel Upcoming Events - Thursday 3rd & Saturday 5th July

Published 12:51 on 2 Jul 2025

In the absence of a decent tidal window for our normal sailing activities over the weekend of 5th & 6th July, we have arranged a couple of novel events:

  1. Evening Series 5 (incl. in Southampton Water Summer Mini-Series). This race starts at 7pm on Thursday, 3rd July and is being hosted by Hythe SC. It will be sailed in accordance with their Sailing Instructions. Weston members will need to complete a Hythe SC Entry Form to compete. Entry is free. The online Entry Form and the Sailing Instructions may be found here: https://hythesailingclub.co.uk/home/dinghy-sailing/. They plan to run the race in the area just south of their moorings and will start from their red rigid plastic rescue boat (ELC), which will operate on radio frequency M1 or 37A. They will decide on the course based on wind and conditions and will probably set their own buoys. It is likely to be a simple triangle to avoid confusion. You will need to ask the committee boat or a RIB to confirm details of the course. A Weston patrol boat will be available to shepherd Weston participants across the main shipping channel.
  2. Long distance low tide cruise. This is a patrol boat supported all day event that is very weather dependent. It is scheduled for Saturday, 5th July. If the weather on Saturday is unsuitable, the cruise can be postponed until Sunday. The plan is to make use of a day when the tide is unsuitable for racing, to go on a cruise and be away from the club over the period when launching and recovery at the club is difficult and muddy. It is a neap tide, so the tidal streams will not be too strong. The destination will depend on the forecast and a final destination decision will not be taken before the proceeding evening. The destination is quite likely to be a beach with no refreshment facilities so bring your own picnic lunch and drinks. If we land near a pub consider it a bonus. Further details of the event may be found on the event page here: https://www.weston.org.uk/event/long-distance-low-tide-cruise-1.

Happy sailing!
