2025 Sailing Program and Volunteering

Published 13:09 on 8 Jan 2025

The 2025 Sailing Program is available via the Calendar tab on the Club website or the following link: https://www.weston.org.uk/events. If you have previously loaded the WSC program into the calendar on your phone, tablet or laptop, it may already be there. If not, click on the subscribe button to the top right of the calendar page. Depending on your device, the WSC program will either be added automatically to your calendar or you will be given a link to a .ics file that can be copied and used to add the WSC program to your calendar app.

Volunteering is also now available for the 1st half of 2025 via the Roster page or the following link: https://www.weston.org.uk/roster. You will need to be logged in to the Club website to access these. Volunteering for the 2nd half of 2025 will be made available in due course. As in 2024, please expect to be required to undertake 3 duties.

Some guidance and information to help with your volunteering:

  • Firstly, as in previous years, qualified/experienced WSC members for Race Officer and Patrol Boat Driver are in short supply. If you possess these skills, please use them wisely. So, for example, if you are a RO, please avoid volunteering for ARO or Patrol Boat Assistant. We really need your skills to be utilised in the most effective way. Thanks for your understanding.
  • Secondly, please volunteer as early as possible so you have the maximum choice and plan ahead to avoid holidays and other commitments.
  • Thirdly, if your circumstances change, and volunteering on the date you have chosen is not possible, please arrange a swap as early as possible. You can make a swap request to more than one member and the more people you ask the more likely it is you will find a suitable swap.

When you have volunteered, please turn up on time for duties. Two hours before the first scheduled start for the Race Officer and one and a half hours before the scheduled start for the rest of the team. Late arrival causes concern and additional work for people who are preparing to go sailing. If due to unforseen circumstances, you can't make it, please let the Club know, ideally via one of the Club's WhatsApp groups or, if not, via sail@weston.org.uk.

Finally, you may notice from the roster page that we have a new volunteer type - Officer of the Day (OOD). As this role can only be covered by a Club house key holder, who has been fully briefed about the role, we have not made volunteering for this role available generally. We do, however, need more key holders to cover this role. If you are interested in becoming a key holder, and volunteering as an OOD, please contact us via sail@weston.org.uk.

That's all the housekeeping done, enjoy the 2025 sailing. We will endeavour to have all the volunteers in place for each race or social sailing event, but we can't do this without your help and understanding of the challenges.
